Frequently Asked Questions

HOW RENTAL COST ARE CALCULATED?

Yes, our hire rates are calculated on a 24-hour basis.

With all of our rental vehicles, the cost of your hire needs to be paid at the time of vehicle collection or can be prepaid prior to pick-up by calling our friendly staff.

As our rental trucks and rental vans have mileage fees, any excess mileage charges will be deducted from the refundable bond that is paid on vehicle collection.

Charge back accounts are to approved account holders only.

International Visitors

With world-class scenery at every turn, a self-drive holiday is a great way to experience all that New Zealand has to offer. Before beginning to plan your journey, there are a few things that you’ll need to know about driving in New Zealand.

We drive on the left-hand side of the road here. Some of our roads are narrow, windy and have loose gravel. And it’s not unusual to see sheep or cattle on roads in rural areas. You need to give yourself plenty of time to reach your destination, and to understand New Zealand road rules and signs.

Even if you have driven in other countries, it’s important to understand our rules for driving in New Zealand before you get behind the wheel here.
We strongly urge all international visitors to make themselves familiar with the following websites:

SHORT HIRE REFUNDS

Early returns of the vehicle may incur a penalty and/or a recalculation of the daily rate. Any refund or charge is solely at our discretion.

Non–English licence holders must carry an accurate English translation of their licence or an International Driving Permit while driving. The English translation document must be issued by one of the following authorities:

  • The New Zealand Translation Service
  • A diplomatic representative at a High Commission, Embassy or Consulate
  • The authority that issued your overseas driver’s licence
All International drivers are reminded of the New Zealand driving laws, we drive on the left side of the road and it is prudent for you to acquaint yourself with the rules and regulations pertaining to driving in New Zealand prior to renting from us.

If you’re holding a NZ restricted licence, you're ok to hire a car from Rent Me Rentals. For insurance purposes you are subject to the conditions of your licence. You may be liable for any insurance claim should a claim result from driving outside those conditions. You must be at least 21 years of age at the time of pick-up.

Please note: Some vehicles require the hirer and driver to hold a clean full licence.
